Past Class – Floral Impressions

Inspired by French impressionist painters such as Renoir and Monet, Friends of Wellington Botanic Garden’s Artist in Residence Mary will show you how to create your own small piece of Impressionist art that can be inserted into a card or framed.

We will release the dye in flowers and leaves into fabric by pounding. The resultant design will be emphasized with simple stitches in matching colours.
Only small amounts of flowers need to be used, we will provide some for you. However, if you have any of the following in your garden you are welcome to bring them, pansies, violas, wallflowers, dandelions and puha, lobelia and geraniums.

A fabric pack, including cotton lawn and felt, will be provided with a needle. A good range of stranded cotton will be available for you to select from.

Most suitable for ages 12+ and confident in threading a needle.
